Goodbye Venice

Louie and I have been living in the same little apartment in Venice Beach for over 12 years. We’ve only lived together in this place, and we have so many beautiful memories here. He asked me to Marry him in the living room! We weren’t really looking to move, we are creatures of habit and familiarity, but we found a great place in Old Town Torrance that we couldn’t pass up. We’re looking forward to a quiet neighborhood, more space, and a house with history and style. I know I will miss Venice Beach with all its color and craziness, but I’m ready for a change.

A photo of us last Christmas, maybe we’ll eat at a table in our new home.

New Website & Haley

I’ve been working with the super talented Katelyn Brooke the last few months on a complete rebrand, and I’m so happy with the end result. She was so much fun to work with, I’m kind of sad that it has come to an end! You can see her blog post about the design process HERE. I can’t thank her enough!

And I’m finally getting around to posting Haley’s Senior photos! She is an artist and had a lot of great ideas, it made my job easy! I loved that she was willing to get up early to catch the morning light.

Hailey

Anyone that knows me, knows that I have a very special relationship with my niece Hailey. She graduated last week, and I couldn’t be more happy and proud of her. She has grown up to be such a thoughtful, smart, sweet, not to mention beautiful, young woman. I cried like a baby when I saw her in her cap and gown. A few months ago we did her senior photos here in Los Angeles, it was surreal, I couldn’t stop thinking about her when she was little. There was a short time that she lived with me when she was a toddler, I worked nights and she would wake me up super early in the morning and whisper, “auntie, fruity pebbles” and I would get up like a zombie and pour her fruity pebbles in a bowl, turn on cartoons, and lay back down on the couch. I miss all those times taking her school clothes shopping, and every time she saw an outfit she liked she screamed, “Oh la la, Auntie, Oh la la!”  It was hilarious. It seems she has always lived two hours from me, and every few weeks I would make the drive to Joshua Tree or to Lake Havasu to pick her up for weekends or school breaks, we would have so much fun together. I feel blessed that she is such a big part of my life.

And some embarrassing photos just for Hailey!

Hailey’s Room Makeover

I’m really excited to share the photos from Hailey’s room makeover. We have been working hard for the last few weeks, pulling all the ideas together and making it happen! I haven’t had much time to blog, I’ve been shooting so much, and working on this special project. For those of you who don’t know, Hailey is my very beautiful 16 year old niece. She and her Dad recently moved into a new place, and since she’s never really had a typically decorated girls room, I thought it was time! She’s doing really well in school, and I thought she deserved a nice space to feel inspired, to hang out with her friends, and most importantly have a great area to study in.

A lot of really amazing people helped us pull this all together, a special thanks to Lew Robertson (photographer) he took all the amazing pics Alicia Buszczak (stylist), Chrissy Cassidy (photographer), Alicia Peterson (photographer), Jennifer Bachelder (for the amazing cake), my cousin Amy for all the vintage frames, and Jack for helping us pull apart all the wood pallets to make the headboard and pinboard.

It all started with my pinterest board, which you can see HERE. Hailey and I came up with the color scheme together, gray and yellow.

Here is her room before

And here it is after!

We painted three walls a light gray and decided on one wall to be chalkboard (Alicia B’s idea!)
Here is Hailey and her friends getting to work!

Some details of her new desk area. A lot of people have been asking me about the feather wall decal, you can find this at BLIK. Alicia P was very patient and did a great job with this.

Alicia Buszczak is one of the most talented people I know, and she donated her time to this project. She came up with so many of the homemade things you see in the room. You can see some of the step by step tutorials on my pinterest, like the BUTTON ART, so cute!

All of the illustrations you see in the room came from Everything Etsy, there’s a huge list of free downloadable prints!

WHAT I’VE BEEN UP TO LATELY

I haven’t blogged much lately, I’ve been so busy trying to finish up the new website. It really is a lot of work going through thousands of images I’ve taken over the last year and trying to figure out which ones to feature. I get emotionally attached to so many. It will be ready to view soon!

I had a great visit with my family in Florida in November, I have so many cute nephews! I have 7 total, they are some of my hardest subjects, little boys never sit still!

And like so many people, I’m completely addicted to Instagram & Pinterest. I love how a photo can take you back to an exact moment or feeling. I might easily forget something as simple as that quiet walk I took that one morning, and all the things I was thinking about along the way. All these instagram photos remind me of little important moments. Follow me HERE if you’d like. I’m also loving pinterest, so many beautiful things to be inspired by, you can find me HERE. I have an inspiration board just for my love of Airstream, one of these days I’ll have that office on wheels.

An afternoon at Balboa Park

I spent a fun afternoon with my Cousin Denver, his wife Anna, Haley, and their new addition, Beckett. They were here visiting from Ohio, and it was a great opportunity to get some nice portraits of them together. My Cousin John and his family met us out there from Corona (I’ll be posting those soon!) We all went to dinner afterwards to True Food Kitchen in Newport Beach, delicious food!

What an adorable family they are.

Summer Jam and Grandma

I would love to learn canning. I have memories of going to my Grandma Fowler’s house and seeing her pantry full of vegetables and fruits from her garden in mason jars. She was always making something in the kitchen, but my favorites were her biscuits and fresh jam. I didn’t make these Jams, but I tried to make them look pretty at least! I aspire to be as good at everything as she was.

Happy Fathers Day!

Not only is my Pops the most amazing father anyone could ever have, he is also an amazing Grandpa (pop pop)! There are so many sentimental things I could say about him, but I put those in his card.  I also wanted to say Happy Fathers Day to my brother-in-law John, he is raising 4 boys on his own, and I am so proud of him. Here is my Pops fishing in St. Petersburg, Fl.
